Criminal Justice Dual Credit Practice Test

The number of Justices on the Supreme Court today is nine. This isn’t determined by the Constitution; Congress sets the size by statute. The Judiciary Act of 1869 fixed the Court at nine justices and that arrangement has remained since, after a period in the 19th century when the number varied. The Court is made up of one Chief Justice and eight Associate Justices. Vacancies lead to presidential nominations and Senate confirmations, but the total stays nine unless Congress changes the law.
